About this site

Many web sites offer help to rescuers, shelters, and disaster survivors to report and search for lost or found pets, but this maze of information creates difficulty for people trying to locate missing pets - they need to search dozens of separate databases, many with limited or no search functionalities. Many pets that were lost in the storm, then rescued by caring volunteers, are now l ost in "the system".

This site functions as a centralized repository, where someone can use an enhanced search based on keywords and descriptions of the data from all of these separate databases, at one time, to find their pet.

Because data is pulled from several databases, there are duplicate entries for some animals which were entered into multiple databases during the chaotic period after the storm, and as they were transferred from rescue to triage sites to interim foster shelters. Most records are incomplete. Information entered at rescue or triage centers will have limited descriptions and usually very poor quality photographs. Shelters currently housing the pets usually have excellent photos, but typically don't include information where the animal was found, so you need to check duplicates to see if one site provides better information or pictures than another.

Many websites which orignally displayed Katrina and Rita rescues have removed those pages from their website resulting in broken links when you click to view the listing. We are aware of the broken links but have purposely retained these links with the original information associated with them as a resource to track where rescued pets were relocated.

Tracking numbers, assigned by the rescue organization or Louisiana authorities when the pet was relocated from the Gulf area to foster shelters are provided in the search results to help you identify animals which are listed on several websites.
